Law School Scholarship

The Wilkes-Barre Law & Library Association through the Luzerne Foundation of Luzerne County awards a $15,000.00 every year to a deserving individual whose domicile (life-long residence) is in Luzerne County. Who has been selected in the fall to attend law school as a first-year law student.    The money is awarded in three payments to the student’s law school for the 1l, 2l and 3l start of the term.

The process opens every April and begins with an original written essay (no AI generated writing is permitted) and a written application submission with attachments.  These must be submitted digitally to Gail Kopiak, the Association’s Deputy Executive Director, by a certain date that is advertised. These are then reviewed by the Association’s Volunteer Readers/Interviewers.  This is Part One.

The Association’s Volunteer Readers/Interviewers then will review the Applications and submitted materials.  This is Part Two.

The top six candidates will then be invited to a face-to-face interview with the Voluntary Readers/Interviewers in the Presidents’ Room at the law library of the Association for sometime in May or June. This is Part Three.

The candidate then selected for the scholarship will then be invited to receive the first year’s law school check at the cocktail reception at the Association’s Summer Outing in July.
